Primary function
Lead the administration of LAO’s Test Case program, Second Chair program, and Mental Health Appeals program.
Home Location: Provincial Office - Toronto

Reports to: Special Advisor
Key accountabilities
- Knowledge of the goals and objectives of LAO’s Test Case program and processes
- Knowledge of the goals and objective of LAO’s Second Chair program and processes
- Knowledge of the goals and objectives of LAO’s Mental Health Appeals program and processes
- Developing and implementing efficient and transparent application processes for the Test Case, Second Chair and Mental Health Appeals programs
- Creating and maintaining efficient electronic and paper filing systems
- Calendar management, including booking meetings, preparing agendas, and other materials as required
- Preparing a variety of correspondence, reports and presentations as requested.
- Working with the Special Advisor (Policy), to regularly report on and evaluate the Test Case, Second Chair and Mental Health Appeals programs, highlighting accomplishments, issues and risks, and identifying and prioritizing changes necessary.
- Working with the Special Advisor (Policy) to develop effective and cost-efficient relationships with other LAO departments, lawyers (staff and private bar), and justice partners (MAG, and the Judiciary) to support the Test Case, Second Chair and Mental Health Appeals programs.
- Knowledge of LAO’s core client strategies and their relevance to LAO’s Test Case, Second Chair and Mental Health Appeals programs
- Respond to the ongoing needs of the Policy department as required.
Required skills & experience
- Knowledge and appreciation of LAO’s Test Case, Second Chair, and Mental Health Appeals program
- Working knowledge of LAO's intake and authorization systems and Peoplesoft
- Ability to effectively prioritize competing issues
- Excellent oral and written, presentation communication skills
- Skilled in setting agendas, recording and preparing minutes for meetings.
- Excellent communications, interpersonal and organizational skills
- Experience in prioritizing and managing own workflow to ensure quality and efficiency
- Solid knowledge of LAO services and structure or other public service experience is an asset
- Exceptional administrative and organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to use latest communication technologies
- Must have intermediate knowledge of the following Microsoft programs; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint and Teams.
- Demonstrated ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision, exercise good judgment and discretion.
